Use FOIA form to get a copy of your I-140 approval notice. It is a slow process. Can take upto a year to get the document.

I don't think OP can do that, because I140 does not belong to you, it belongs to the company.
correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the concept is you are asking for copies of documents that you have filed and since you have to attach a copy of 140 along with 485, you have the right to ask for a copy. but since OP has not yet filed 485 or more precisely, has not attached a copy of 140 approval for anything, he/she cannot ask for the same.
I have heard getting docs from USCIS under FOIA takes about a year or even longer(no experience though).

Once you are on AOS status you do not need H4. If you have renewed it that's fine it does not matter.
My wife came to us in 2004 and she got her EAD/AP in 2007 and I did not apply H4 for her ever since. We have have gone out of country and come back in on AP.

Do you have a currently valid H-1 visa stamped in your passport? If you do, you don't have to apply for a new visa at a US Consul abroad. You would only have to leave the US and return using that visa and presenting the approval notice for company A along with proof that you are coming to the US to work for company A.
I agree with Raysaikat that USCIS is not likely to approve a nunc pro tunc H-1 under these circumstances. But whether or not you pursue this option, you should get and keep as much documentation as possible to show you honestly and reasonably believed you were authorized to work for company B. Such documentation might include any written communications from company B or the attorney telling you that the H petition had been filed and/or that you could legally begin work for them.

The omni-bus has come and gone! The MILLION dollar drive is a long term strategy. It aims to give IV enough funds to steamroll ahead. It will help IV become pro-active. Every time there is a ray of hope, IV has to come to us for money. A MILLION dollars will ensure that IV does not have to do that. We are nearly 30,000 members and not enough are contributing. The MILLION dollar drive was about one-time contributions of $250 (mind you all contributions are valuable) to reach the magic figure of a million dollars. IV needs the money to become more powerful.

You can get extension tubes and/or a front lens attachment for close-up work with your 28-200. Close-up is so much fun, so get some cheap stuff (e.g., Kenko extension tubes) and start shooting! Don't worry about the quality of the equipment when starting out. You take great pictures with simple and cheap equipment. And consider flashing your 300D with the Russian hack to get mirror lockup. I haven't done it yet, but I am thinking about it. Hmm, might make for an interesting poll in the 300D forum....
